Peninsula School Feeding Association
The Peninsula School Feeding Association is 50 years old and feeds about 234,500 children daily in more than 600 primary and high schools throughout the Western Cape. With the motto ‘You can’t teach a hungry child’, they provide a cooked meal four days a week (samp and beans, rice and soya) to many children who would otherwise not receive a proper meal. They also deliver food to the schools where volunteer parents and grandparents prepare it. This at a cost of only R1.20 per day per child.
All donations go 100% to the feeding programme (the organisation’s staff and admin costs are paid out of interest from investments from bequests and legacies). Look out for their annual fund raiser of a big family fun walk called ‘Blisters for bread’ in Cape Town. Click here
