The Homestead

The Homestead

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Homestead’s Early Intervention Centre took place on 21 May 2010 in Khayelitsha. Lichtblick and the Goettinger Rotarians donated R210,000 towards the project, aimed at caring for street children in the community.
The Homestead’s mission is to help children who live on the streets to reconstruct their shattered lives by offering on and off the street projects for boys aged six to eighteen as they move through various stages of rehabilitation. The Homestead also provides preventative projects that assist high-risk children to remain in their communities instead of resorting to a life on the streets. The organisation has been developing and implementing sustainable solutions for the re-integration of street children in Cape Town for more than 25 years.
With the building of this Early Intervention Centre the Homestead will be able to provide residential care for a maximum of 75 boys. The centre will also include a Job Creation Centre where parents can learn job skills and earn an income.
